BrookwakeCapture

BrookwakeCapture is the visitor Brookwake sends when a customer asks for an explainer video of a website. It takes screenshots of the pages the customer listed and notes where the headings, buttons and links are on each page.

What it does

  • It visits only pages a Brookwake customer listed: up to 10 pages on one site, or one start page and up to 10 pages linked from its main menu.
  • It visits each page once per request, one page at a time, at least one second apart.
  • It never signs in, clicks buttons, accepts cookie banners or fills in forms. Pop-ups that cover the page may be hidden on its own screenshot, never dismissed on your site.
  • It visits only public web addresses, on the usual web ports.
  • Before a capture, the customer confirms that the website is theirs or that they have permission to show it in a video (our Terms of Service).

How to recognise it

Its user agent is the Chromium browser's own, followed by:

BrookwakeCapture/1.0 (+https://brookwake.com/capture)

How to opt out

BrookwakeCapture reads your site's robots.txt before the first page and follows it. To keep it off your whole site, add these lines:

User-agent: BrookwakeCapture
Disallow: /

A page your robots.txt disallows is skipped, and the customer is asked to upload a screenshot instead. If your robots.txt can't be read (other than a missing file), BrookwakeCapture doesn't visit your site at all.
